Seasonal Decor for the holidays

The holidays are a wonderful time of year! We’re all indoors a whole lot more enjoying our homes.  So why not decorate the space to make it beautiful!

Long lasting magnolia are both functional and beautiful

We’re not going to sugar coat things -- it does take some time & effort to add that ambiance.  But with a few tricks of the trade and some elbow grease, you too can share in the feeling of accomplishment.

Some of the most widely available winter foliage is sometimes right in your backyard.  Things like magnolia, pine, boxwood and leyland cypress are trees which are commonly grown in the Northeast.  When cut and used as a fresh flower in water, they often last for 3+ weeks.  Combining greenery with flowers you can buy from the grocery store is a great way to go. Specific flower types we recommend are tulips and hydrangea as they are widely available to the masses. You can swap out the flowers as they die while keeping the greenery going strong.  We recommend changing the water at least twice per week for optimal freshness. Outside of going to a local flower shop, we always find the best flower selections at Whole Foods and Trader Joes stores. And their prices are good too!

Some of our favorite vessels for a little metallic bling are mercury glass. A little touch of sparkle in silver or gold gives a touch more of that festive feeling.  A store we frequent for their extensive selection of mercury glass is Jamali Gardens.  With a store in Manhattan and an organized online store, there will surely be something to catch your eye.  Happy Holidays!
